L’MXGP di Svezia torna nel calendario del campionato mondiale di motocross dopo due anni di assenza, offrendo a Tim Gajser e Mitch Evans del Team HRC la possibilità di tornare ai loro alti livelli di prestazione dopo il difficile evento di Lommel, in Belgio.
A soli quattro round dalla fine del campionato 2022, Gajser si trova in una posizione dominante, con 122 punti di vantaggio sul suo rivale più vicino, ed è entusiasta di concludere la stagione in bellezza.
La sabbia profonda di Lommel non è stata clemente con il pilota numero 243, ma intende riprendersi con un buon risultato a Uddevalla, in Svezia, un luogo in cui ha già vinto nel 2017 (MXGP) e nel 2015 (MX2).
Dopo aver saltato le stagioni compromesse dal Covid, il tracciato panoramico, appena a nord di Göteborg, dovrebbe vedere la presenza di molti fan a fare il tifo per i piloti Honda, che cercheranno di reagire puntando ancora una volta al podio.
Evans è stato in terza posizione per la maggior parte della gara di qualificazione di Lommel, ma una caduta ad un paio di giri dalla fine lo ha fatto precipitare in fondo allo schieramento e, sebbene sia riuscito a resistere alla prima metà della prima manche in tredicesima posizione, è stato costretto ad uscire dalla pista.
Si è deciso di non schierarlo in gara due e di dargli invece le migliori possibilità di recupero per questo round in Svezia, in cui dovrebbe sentirsi molto meglio ed essere in grado di tornare alla forma che lo ha visto ottenere sei ottimi piazzamenti di fila nei tre eventi precedenti.
Con il bel tempo che si prospetta in Europa, la pista di Uddevalla dovrebbe essere in ottime condizioni e, con due anni di tempo per lavorare in vista del prossimo evento, anche le strutture dovrebbero essere all’altezza degli standard abituali per accogliere i migliori corridori del mondo.
Come per ogni evento di quest’anno, il campionato torna ad essere strutturato su due giorni, con prove libere e cronometrate seguite da una gara di qualificazione il sabato, per poi passare al warm-up mattutino e alle due manche la domenica pomeriggio.

The MXGP of Sweden returns to the world motocross championship calendar after a two-year absence, to give Team HRC’s Tim Gajser and Mitch Evans a chance to get back to their high levels of performance after a tough event last time out in Lommel, Belgium.
With just four rounds left of this 2022 campaign, Gajser sits in a commanding position, 122-points ahead of his nearest rival and excited to finish the season strongly.
The deep sand of Lommel wasn’t kind to the #243, but he is looking to bounce back with a good result in Uddevalla, Sweden, a place he has won at before in 2017 (MXGP) and 2015 (MX2).
After missing the Covid-affected seasons, the scenic track, just north of Gothenburg should see a lot of fans come out to cheer on the Honda riders and they will both be looking to respond by challenging for the podium positions once again.
Evans was riding in third position for the majority of the Lommel qualification race, but a crash a couple of laps from the end saw him drop down the field, and although he was able to tough out the first half of moto one in 13th, he then had to pull off the race track.
It was decided for him to not line-up in race two and instead to give himself the best chance of recovery for this round in Sweden, where he should be feeling a lot better and where he should be able to get back to the form that saw him put in six strong finishes in a row in the three previous events.
With the good weather in Europe looking to remain, the Uddevalla track should be in prime condition, and with two years to work on everything for their next event, the facilities should also be up to their usual high standards as they welcome the best riders in the world.
As with every event this year, the championship is back to a two-day format with free and timed practice followed by a qualification race on the Saturday, and then a morning warm-up and the two motos on the Sunday afternoon.
